During the 1990 session, the Mississippi Legislature passed legislation authorizing the Department of Public Safety to issue statewide firearm permits to individuals who make application and pay a fee. All original permits are issued from the Headquarters Firearm Permit Unit. Renewal permits are issued from district driver’s license substations as long as there is no problem with the renewal that must be addressed by the Headquarters Firearm Permit Unit. This unit is also responsible for issuing statewide firearm permits to security guards.

NOTE: *MHP does not provide photo for application (the photograph must be no more than six (6) months prior to the date of application. The photo cannot be a driver’s license or id card.

You may pay with cash, debit card, Master card, VISA, Money Order, or cashier’s check.  We DO NOT accept personal checks, American Express, or Discover Cards.  We DO NOT accept joint payments (for example: husband, and wife on one check, money order, or debit transaction). Only individual payments are accepted.

All forms that apply, must be completely filled out and notarized.

Please have your Driver’s License Number changed to an issued number (for example: 800-00-0000) if same as social security number.
