Mississippi Department of Public Safety

  •
  • Commissioner's Welcome Statement
  • Welcome to the Mississippi Department of Public Safety’s website. Our mission at the department is to make Mississippi a safer place by patrolling its roads and highways, keeping drugs off our streets and providing training and funds to law enforcement agencies across Mississippi.
  •
  • But we do more than that. The department is made up of eight different offices and 1200 state employees dedicated to the safety of our fellow Mississippians. Some of these offices like the Mississippi Highway Patrol or driver service’s bureaus are more familiar to you than others, but they all provide a valuable asset that improves the quality of life for residents.
  •
  • Under the DPS umbrella are offices like the State Crime Lab and State Medical Examiner’s Office, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, and the Mississippi Department of Homeland Security. As you will see throughout this website, we provide a wide range of services for our state.
  •
  • Thank you for visiting and for your interest in the Mississippi Department of Public Safety. I hope you are able to find the information you need. I encourage you to contact us should you have any questions about the work we provide for the great state of Mississippi.
  •
  •
  • The MS Law Enforcement Officers Training Academy in Pearl has openings in all classes.
  •
  • You may check out other classes on our website, www.mleota.ms.gov, scroll down and click on MLEOTA Course Listings. THANKS Please call Grace Wynne at (601)933-2128

MLEOTA is now scheduling additional classes to meet the 24 hour mandate of continuing training hours for municipal officers serving in the state of Mississippi.

These municipal training classes are absolutely free to the participant. All costs to include tuition, meals and lodging will be paid through a grant administered by the Board on Law Enforcement Standards and Training (BLEOST).
