After an intense five-and-a-half week probe, investigators with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) and the district attorney for the 15th Judicial District of Mississippi have charged a man in connection with the March 2nd triple homicide in the Carson community of Jefferson Davis County.

At the request of Jefferson Davis County Sheriff Ron Strickland, MBI and the DA led the investigation that resulted in the arrest of 24-year-old Roger Rondell “Hitman” Jones. Jones was charged yesterday with three counts of capital murder.

As part of the on-going investigation, the Mississippi Highway Patrol SWAT Team executed a high-risk warrant at 314 Cedar Grove Road, a known hub of drug activity.

“This is an on-going investigation,” said MBI Director Larry Waggoner. “We are following leads and looking for additional evidence in the case. Those leads took us to Cedar Grove Road yesterday.”

In the early morning hours of March 2nd, authorities were called to 89 T.W. Bass Road in the Carson Community after reports of gunfire. Officers found 48-year-old Roland Smith and his parents, 80-year-old Arvin Smith and 74-year-old Maxine Smith shot to death.

Agencies participating in yesterday’s raid at Cedar Grove Road were the Mississippi Highway Patrol (MBI, SWAT and troopers), Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, Mississippi Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks, Jefferson Davis County Sheriff’s Department and Marion County Sheriff’s Department.
